Food insecurity impacts many people in our community. To give you an idea of the impact:
We have 11,207 people living in Morrow County
900 or 8% of those people are food insecure
630 or 70% of those who are food insecure are children
A stunning 20% of all children living in Morrow County are food insecure
To address this issue, Columbia River Health hopes to build a food clinic to house a food pantry, learning kitchen, and learning garden. To make this happen, CRH is partnering with the Oregon Food Bank, CAPECO, Columbia River Harvesters, OSU Extension, Umatilla Morrow Head Start, and the Port of Morrow. We’re looking forward to adding more partners along the way and we welcome community involvement.
Constructing the food clinic will cost an estimated $610,000. We hope to raise this money through a combination of grants and fundraising. We kicked off our fundraising campaign last week at our annual Community Appreciation Barbecue. So far, we’ve received $15,531 in pledges! Thank you!
